Vision
My vision for a Media Program is that it will provide access to information for all students, staff,and parents allowing them to become life-long learners and users of information.
Philosphy
All members of the school community will have access to the resources provided in the media center. The media center will provide a wide variety of books, information technology, and support for a variety of learning styles and needs. Through collaboration with classroom teachers and the LMS, the SLMC will enrich the school curriculum and support the school’s academic goals while teaching literacy skills that will enable students to become independent and life-long learners.
I have learned that the information literacy skills that we teach in the media Center are some of the most important int he school. Aside from Math and Reading skills, much of the other curriculum will be obsolete in 20 years. Therefore, it is critical that students know how to find , evaluate, and use information. They should be able to walk into any library in the country and feel comfortable fining what they need. That is my goal as a Library Media Specialist and the mantra I have learned over the course of my Master's studies.
